Zirconia Crowns
Types of zirconia used on crowns: Of all the varieties available, Dentists often prefer to use two kinds of zirconia 1. Framework zirconia, 2. Full-contour zirconia. Framework zirconia is best for Anterior and Posterior multi-unit bridges, whereas Full-contour zirconia works better as a monolithic restoration.
Causes of teeth damage: Several factors may cause the teeth to wear or break. Tooth decay, injuries, and natural aging are the leading causes of tooth damage. Teeth Grinding, crossbite, and chewing on hard objects may cause the teeth to lose shape or reduce in height. Getting a zirconia crown won’t help the natural teeth grow back to health, but it will prevent further damage and improve the affected tooth’s appearance.
Some common indications are:
1. Preventing fracture of a week tooth
2. Improving the smile
3. Restoring a broken tooth
4. Improving the bite
5. Covering large fillings, dental implants, and root canal treated tooth
6. Covering the discolored tooth, which improves esthetics.( Veneers)
Advantages: Zirconia is the most durable monolithic ceramic, which is made without added materials. Zirconia is more split-resistant. Zirconia has a better shielding capacity which can take higher loads without compromising the integrity of the smile.
Disadvantages The material by itself isn’t easy to match with the real teeth. According to the recent survey by ADA, 57% of dentists found this material having translucency issues and over 50% of recipients complained about de-bonding problems.
